CASBHC Selects New Executive Director, Board President

CASBHC is pleased to announce the selection of Deborah Costin as Executive Director effective March 2007. Deborah was instrumental in the inception of CASBHC 10 years ago.  Ms. Costin succeeds Barbara Ford, who served as Executive Director since 2002.  Best wishes to Barbara in pursuit of her counseling career.

Donna Shocks, Manager of Nursing Services at Denver Public Schools, is the new President of the CASBHC Board of Directors. Special thanks to outgoing President, Betty Pepin, for her many years of service and continued participation on the CASBHC Board.

Brain-Based Learning, April 10, 2007

Colorado Connections for Healthy Schools presents Dr. Marcia Tate, CEO of Developing Minds, Inc., at the Adams 12 School District Training Center in Thornton. Registration is due by April 1, 2007. Colorado Safety Net Symposium, May 4, 2007

Strengthening health care access for vulnerable Coloradans is the focus for the May 4th symposium at the Denver Marriot West in Golden. The event is co-sponsored by The Colorado Health Institute, Colorado Hospital Association, Colorado Community Health Network, Clinic Net and the Colorado Rural Health Center. Community and School Health Pediatric Conference, June 14-15, 2007

The 23rd Annual Community and School Health Pediatric Conference will be at the Children's Hospital in Denver. Video conferencing sites will be available in Durango, Grand Junction, Pueblo, and Casper, WY. For more information, please see Pediatric Conference Flyer. Applications for a limited number of scholarships from the Colorado Department of Public Health are due by April 1, 2007.

NASBHC Annual Conference, June 27-30, 2007

The National School-Based Health Care Convention will be in Washington D.C. Featured speakers are Marian Wright Edelman, Founder and President for the Children's Defense Fund, and David J. Funding Information

Western Dairy Council Nutrition Education Grant

The Western Dairy Council invites health professionals and nutrition educators to apply for the "3-A-Day of Dairy" educational grants. Applications are due by April 6, 2007. To learn more about the program, go to Western Dairy Council website.

 

Primary Care Fund Grant Applications

SBHC programs are entitled to participate in the Colorado Primary Care Fund. $32 million will be awarded for the 2007-2008 year. Complete information is available at Colorado HCPF - Primary Care Fund. Applications are due May 25, 2007.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment

The CDPHE website provides a wealth of information for school and community health professionals. The School-Based Health Centers webpage may be of particular interest  for those new to the concept of SBHCs.

National Assembly for School-Based Health Care

Nasbhc.org offers research articles, tools and training opportunities, as well as up-to-date information on the legislative efforts on the national level promoting School-Based Health Centers.
