Children
are doing better, but only a little, index reports
The 2005 Index of Child Well-Being, an annual report prepared
by the Foundation for Child Development, finds that on some
measures, including teen birth rates, violent criminal activity,
smoking, and illicit drug use, American children are doing
slightly better than they did in 1975, the base year for the
index, but the health domain continues to decline as the result
of steadily rising levels of obesity. For more information

Hard
choices for children in immigrant families
One in five children in the U.S. live in an immigrant family.
Nearly half these children's families have income below 200
percent of poverty. Their families are more likely to be worried
about or having difficulty in paying for food. The newest InFocus
report summarizes the latest research on the issues affecting
this growing group of children. For more information, go to: http://www.healthinschools.org/focus/2005/no1.htm |
