Children are doing better, but only a little, index reports


The 2005 Index of Child Well-Being, an annual report prepared by the Foundation for Child Development, finds that on some measures, including teen birth rates, violent criminal activity, smoking, and illicit drug use, American children are doing slightly better than they did in 1975, the base year for the index, but the health domain continues to decline as the result of steadily rising levels of obesity. Educators link health and academic achievement


On July 17, 2004, the board of directors of the Council of Chief State School Officers (In Colorado, the State Commissioner of Education): approved a policy statement on school health that calls on the education community to recognize the enormous impact that health has on the academic achievement of children. Colorado’s SBHC report available, mailed to legislators

Four foundations commit $4.1 million to advance Colorado's mental health care


Advancing Colorado's Mental Health Care Project is a five-year, $4.1 million joint project of the Caring for Colorado Foundation, The Colorado Trust, The Denver Foundation and HealthONE Alliance. The project will provide support to human services agencies, mental health care providers and others to improve the integration and coordination of mental health services in Colorado communities. To be considered for funding, proposals must be submitted to TriWest, the project coordinator for this effort, by May 31, 2005.
